Skill & Ability

Shar Music has proudly served musicians and music educators for more than 60 years, providing instruments, sheet music, accessories, repairs, and rentals to schools and musicians throughout Washtenaw County and beyond.

Through its partnership with Skill & Ability, Shar Music provides meaningful work experiences that help individuals build valuable job skills while contributing to the company's daily operations. Participants assist with a variety of production tasks throughout the year, and during the summer they play an important role in preparing instruments and supplies for local school music programs. Their work includes cleaning and repairing instrument cases and assembling hundreds of instrument cleaning kits that are delivered to schools each fall.

Creating an inclusive and supportive workplace is an important part of Shar Music's culture. Team members work alongside Skill & Ability participants to create a welcoming environment where individuals can develop workplace skills, build confidence, and work toward their vocational goals. The partnership has become a meaningful collaboration that benefits both organizations while strengthening the local community.
